Mercury Toxicity and Health
Posted 2 Jun '17
Did you know that Mercury is 1000 times more toxic than lead? Mercury is the most toxic, non-radioactive heavy metal that exists on earth, and yet for centuries we have been using this poisonous substance to repair our teeth! The two primary sources of mercury exposure are dental amalgams (mercury-based fillings) and seafood consumption, followed by thimerosal-containing vaccines and mercury pollution from coal-burning power plants.
Silver amalgams typically comprise 50% mercury. The safety of using mercury on teeth has been controversial from the very beginning. However, due to general ignorance of the use of mercury in fillings, and of the negative effects on health, concern has not become widespread until recently.
Every time someone with an amalgam filling eats, drinks, brushes teeth, grinds teeth, chews gum…anything, small amounts of mercury vapor are released into their system, which can build up over time. This built up mercury is often excreted from the body as stool, however sometimes significant amounts of mercury become stuck in the digestive tract. Some people who have received colonic irrigation treatment have been shocked to discover large amounts of mercury being removed, sometimes from amalgam fillings that were taken out many years before.
Some people may be able to consume fish with large amounts of mercury and have no symptoms while someone who consumes very little is very
sick. The difference lies in your ability to detoxify naturally. This can depend on a several factors, such as your exposure level, genetic
makeup and your overall health. If you are suffering from a chronic illness, your detox pathways are most likely backed up and your entire
system is sluggish, slowing down the rate that you can detox.
Mercury poisoning can lead to a number of serious health conditions and symptoms including:
• Mood swings, nervousness, irritability, and other emotional changes,
• Insomnia
• Headache
• Abnormal sensations
• Muscle twitching,
• Tremors
• Weakness
To stop the continuation of mercury poisoning from amalgam fillings, you may seek to have them removed. However, the removal of fillings can also cause extreme cases of mercury poisoning if not done correctly. To safely remove a mercury filling, the dentist must know how to deal with such things as the invisible gas given off by the filling once it’s removed. Special masks and vacuums can be used to ensure that neither patient nor dentist becomes poisoned. It is best to seek out a holistic dentist.
Hair Mineral Analysis is a helpful way to identify heavy metals and helps assess other beneficial minerals to help remove it.

HMA through the Cura clinic are sent to the Mediscan Facility at the University of Western Australia. Samples are processed through two separate spectrometers giving the most accurate readings across the total elements. HMA is also a great tool to monitor progress while detoxing from toxic elements.
Detoxing from heavy metals and balancing minerals is a complex process. You should always work with a skilled healthcare practitioner who can guide you through to optimal health.
